چکیده
Inverse Compton scattering of polarized laser photons by energetic electrons is an excellent method to generate gamma rays. Complete description of polarization effects in the nonlinear Compton scattering I. Circularly polarized laser photons
We consider emission of a photon by an electron in the field of a strong laser wave. Polarization effects in this process are important for a number of physical problems. We discuss a probability of this process for circularly polarized laser photons and for arbitrary polarization of all other particles. We obtain the complete set of functions which describe such a probability in a compact cova...
متن کاملMeasuring energy dependent polarization in soft gamma-rays using Compton scattering in PoGOLite
Linear polarization in Xand gamma-rays is an important diagnostic of many astrophysical sources, foremost giving information about their geometry, magnetic fields, and radiation mechanisms. However, very few X-ray polarization measurements have been made, and then only mono-energetic detections, whilst several objects are assumed to have energy dependent polarization signatures. In this paper w...
متن کاملSpatial Profile Measurement of Femtosecond Laser - Compton X-rays
A femtosecond X-ray source was developed by Thomson scattering through interaction between a lowemittance picosecond electron beam and a terawatt femtosecond laser light at 90 configuration. The observed X-ray intensity with peak energy of 2.3 keV and pulse duration of 270 fs rms was typically 1.4x10 photons/pulse. The pulse-to-pulse fluctuation of the X-ray intensity was measured to be 25%. Th...
متن کاملInverse Compton Scattering – Revisited
An important radiative process, used in several astrophysical contexts to generate high energy photons, is the inverse compton scattering. In this process, relativistic electrons transfer part of their kinetic energy to low energy photons thereby creating high energy photons. Conventional text book derivation (Rybicki & Lightman 1979) of this process uses the photon picture, kinematics of elect...
متن کاملInverse Compton scattering
Hard photons well above 100GeV have to be generated in a future photon collider which essentially will be based on the infrastructure of the planned International Linear Collider (ILC). The energy of near-infrared laser photons will be boosted by Compton backscattering against a high-energy relativistic electron beam. For high effectiveness, a very powerful laser system is required that exceeds...
